“Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation, whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285
Confirmation Requirements
- Choosing a confirmation name: You may already have an idea of the name you would like to choose for your confirmation. You should choose the name of a Saint who you admire and whose lifestyle and witness to the faith means something to you at Baptism. This is a beautiful way to strengthen the connection between your Baptism and this important celebration of your own confirmation of faith. An essay reflecting the reason you chose your name is due on Sunday October 25,2026. We encourage you to get started while you have some extra time this summer. Use the enclosed form to create an outline for your essay. Essay should be one page in length.
- Choosing a sponsor: Church law requires that a sponsor be baptized, confirmed and must lead a life in harmony with his/her Faith. Your sponsor should be someone committed to helping you in your faith journey, therefore, he/she must be at least 16 years of age. Please keep in mind that parents cannot be chosen as Sponsors. Sponsor certificates are due on Sunday October 25,2026.
A Sponsor certificate is required from the Parish where he/she regularly attends Mass, NOT where he/she was baptized or confirmed. Ask your sponsor to call his/her parish and request a Confirmation Sponsor Certificate. When your sponsor receives the form and gives it to you, please hand it in with the other confirmation requirements.
- Faith commitments: helping others is a major part of our identity as Catholic Christians. All Confirmation candidates are expected to complete 10 hours of service to Annunciation Parish. Service hours are due on Sunday October 25,2026
- The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be held in October date and time TBA soon.
- A confirmation retreat is required and will be held on October 11,2026 at Holy Family Retreat.
- Fee: A $90 fee will cover Faith Formation and Retreat costs this year. Due on 9/4/2026.
- A confirmation meeting will take place September 20th after the 9:15 Children’s Mass. Parents and students in grades 8 & 9 should attend Mass then report to the Church Hall immediately after Mass.
- Fill out the Confirmation Cathedral Form. This form must be filled out for each student to be confirmed at the Cathedral. The information will be entered in the Cathedral Confirmation Records and our Parish records. Use this link to fill out Cathedral Form
Confirmation Prayer
Spirit of God, grant me the gift of wisdom through Your eyes.
The gift to counsel to make difficult decisions.
The gift of knowledge and understanding to use my mind to know You and to love.
The gift of fortitude to have the courage to live in faith despite difficulties and disappointments.
The gift of piety to be able to express my special love and commitment to You.
And the right kind of awesome fear to wonder and to revere God’s love.
Amen
Confirmation will take place on Saturday November 21,2026 at 10am at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph for 9th grade students. The date for Spring 2027 for 8th grade students making their confirmation will be announced by the Chancery office of the Archdiocese of Hartford at a later date.
